  1. Wow! I thought I must be the only person with one of these Black & Deckers. I have Model B1500. I don’t think the machine is manufactured anymore.

The instruction book suggests using the Raisin Bread setting if you are using a recipe adding fruits, nuts, or cheese.

Also suggests bring liquids to room temperature before measuring into the baking pan and add liquids first, then dry ingredients and yeast last of all. Instruction cautions not to allow yeast to touch liquids.

The instruction book I have does not have a banana bread recipe.

Banana bread recipes I have are quick breads and don’t use yeast as a rising agent.. Also this kind of bread should not be over mixed. I mix my Banana Breads by hand in a bowl with a big spoon. I would prefer to do it in a mixer but to do that I need to go through the trouble and dig the machine out of an upstairs closet.

I haven’t tried the first recipe below yet but I thought it looked interesting because of the amount of bananas. About twice more than other recipes call for.

    Banana Nut Yeast Bread

    by Elizabeth Zesiger, Oroville, WA
Taste of Home’s Bread Bonanza Cookbook magazine
    Volume 6, 2003

This bread was given to Elizabeth Zesiger by a friend who liked it because it requires no kneading but has a terrific taste and aroma of traditional banana bread.

2 packages (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast
    1/3 cup warm water (100° – 115 °)
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (2 to 3 medium)
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/3 cup warm milk (110 ° – 115 °)
1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    2 eggs
    5 to 5-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    1/2 cup chopped nuts

In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add the bananas, sugar, milk, butter, salt, eggs and 3 cups flour. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in nuts. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a stiff batter. Do not knead.

Spoon into two greased 9-inch x 5-inch x 3-inch loaf pans. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1-1/2 hours. Bake at 375 ° for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool. Yield: 2 loaves.
