Peach Betty

I guess you have all heard about the dessert called apple betty right? May it be from your neighbor’s grandmother, a cousin or even from your own family tree. Basically an apple betty is a cross between a bread pudding and an apple cobbler. Imagine eating these two all at once…sounds delicious right?

I myself have tried making apple betty and incorporated other fruits as well, however there isn’t any fruit as flavorful and as delicious than peach in making this dessert. Hence the Peach Betty, one of my most prized recipes and for being the star of almost any gathering I can remember.

The peach betty is basically halved peaches with crumbled bread baked till tender and golden. These combination of textures are also binded with maple syrup which makes  this a truly satisfying and enjoyable dish.

Did I also mention that I made this one healthier and lighter? You heard that right, now go on and take another bite. Indulge and don’t look back for this is one healthy dessert for the New Year.

3 peaches, ripe, pitted and sliced into 4 wedges each

3 tablespoons butter, unsalted and melted

3 tablespoons maple syrup

¾ teaspoon vanilla extract

3 slices bread, preferably walnut-raisin

Pinch of sea salt



1. Toss together your peaches, half of the butter, half of the maple syrup and vanilla extract in a bowl till fully combined then arrange the peaches in an oven proof dish cut side up.

2. Take your bread and pulse in the food processor with the salt. Just pulse 2 to 3 times till bread is quite coarse but not fine. Then add in the remaining maple syrup and butter.
